History

Tobias Alpsten, then a management consultant working with Andersen Consulting in Paris, founded iPLATO in London in the autumn of 1999. After incorporation in February 2000 iPLATO secured an initial project on mobile financial services. By the end of the summer of 2000 iPLATO had grown its operations internationally by creating offices in London, Chicago and Prague.

The deterioration of the Information Technology market that started at the end of 2000 was clearly having a major impact on the market for wireless solutions in 2001 when many mobile solutions providers went out of business. iPLATO has not been insensitive to the market downturn. However, due to a low cost base, the continued signing of several key client contracts and crucial new company hires we managed to develop a very strong company in a commercially challenging market. By systematically looking for pragmatic mobile software products for our enterprise customers, iPLATO also used the market lull to develop a number of wireless products for customer relationships and mobile workforce management.

iPLATO's historical strength has been to acquire robust clients and deliver excellent service. In addition to a long-standing relationship with Orange, over the past months we have provided advice and built mobile applications for other well-known organisations such as the CitiGroup, the UK National Health Service and the International Herald Tribune. This work has allowed us to develop a stable yet innovative organisation.
